We were on our three-day route in the Central Balkan mountain range. On the first day, a storm caught us on our way to Mazalat shelter. It was so windy, snowy, and foggy that photography was impossible that day!
We reached the hut shortly after sunset and at night. It is located 1525 meters above sea level on the eastern border of the Central Balkan National Park.
The hut is on the main ridge and overlooks the south Triglav massif, which includes the second-highest peak in the Balkan Mountains, Golyam Kademlia (2275.4 meters).
The view of the Central Balkan from the top of the Wolf's Head peak (behind the hut in the photo) is even more comprehensive. It is 30 minutes from the hut and is the perfect place to watch a sunrise or sunset.
