After spending a lot of time driving around San Juan Island, filming a documentary on the Southern Resident Killer Whales, I noticed a random tree standing out against the deep green forest.
Fall was starting to take full shape across the region. My crew and I were making our way from one end of the island to another, chasing a potential orca sighting, when this scene came across our paths. I begged them to stop the car and let me capture a few shots of this gorgeous maple tree with a perfect reflection from the still pond.
I had five minutes to find my composition in the misting rain. The results were phenomenal. I could not be happier with how this one came together. I love it when one tree stands out against the crowd.
