Hatch Point Sunrise, Canyon Rims Recreation Area, Monticello, UT, USA

This image was taken from our camp situated on the edge of the canyon. I had photographed there the evening prior with mixed results. Watching the canyon come alive after sunrise was a sight to behold. Patience paid off.
High Noon, Devil’s Canyon, San Pedro de Atacama, Chile

We were dismayed to start our group hike through the Devil’s Canyon at 10 am, knowing we’d be dealing with harsh light and deep shadows along the trail. But when you’re traveling with a group composed mainly of non-photographers, sometimes you just have to go along and make the best of things. Making the best […]
Moonscape Overlook, Factory Butte Recreation Area, Hanksville, UT, USA

There’s a reason this is called Moonscape Overlook. It’s an otherworldly landscape that leaves me dumbstruck every time. To capture this image, I waited for the morning light to wash over the shale badlands and awaken the textures and subtle colors.
Salt Grass Crescents, Near Tatio Geysers, Atacama Desert, Chile

There are several viewpoints along the road between San Pedro de Atacama and the Tatio Geysers. We stopped at this one the morning after the first early autumn snowfall (February 2026), hence the fresh dusting of white on the tops of the volcanoes in the Andes range that marks the border between Chile and Bolivia. […]
Desert Mosaic Monochrom, Negev Desert, Israel

This is the monochrome companion photo to the already published colour Desert Mosaic. The mosaic pattern in the photo is a result of ancient volcanic activity. I think the monochrome shot brings with it an interesting effect.
Cholla Paradise, Green Valley, Arizona, USA

I recently found this awesome area in the desert of Green Valley. It is surrounded by these cholla cacti. I have been eyeing this area for a while, but just never committed to photographing it. I finally decided to stop waiting and just go out there and try to find a composition. While out there, […]
Three Sisters, Goblin Valley State Park, Utah, USA

After a trip to the Utah Badlands for a slot canyon photography workshop, I spent my last evening at Goblin Valley State Park. I currently live in Oregon and have visited the Three Sisters—a trio of volcanic peaks in the central Cascades—so I was curious to see the rock formations in Goblin Valley that share […]
Atacama Desert Hot Air Balloon Ride, Chile

We began five days of exploring the high altitude Atacama desert with a hot air balloon ride from the town of San Pedro de Atacama. One of the two most surprising things about our float past the Salt Mountain range was the patches of green fields cultivated by the Atacameños (aka Licanantay), who have used […]
Storm Over Desert Butte, Utah, USA

I captured this moment in southern Utah as a storm rolled in quickly over the desert. The butte was still lit by warm light while dark clouds gathered behind it, creating a striking contrast. I took the shot on my iPhone, reacting fast before the light disappeared. It’s a reminder of how quickly conditions change […]
Suede Sand, Eureka Dunes, Death Valley, CA, USA

Gusts up to 40mph on my first hike up the dunes made for some unexpected photo opportunities. Sand and wind whipped me and the camera into submission. Shot this kneeling down at a high shutter speed to freeze the whirlwinds of sand. The sueded sand effect was unanticipated and pleasing. It’s remarkable what the wind […]
