We were dismayed to start our group hike through the Devil’s Canyon at 10 am, knowing we’d be dealing with harsh light and deep shadows along the trail. But when you’re traveling with a group composed mainly of non-photographers, sometimes you just have to go along and make the best of things. Making the best of things in this case meant focusing on some of the details, like the brilliant white layers of salt crystals that form each year at the start of the rainy season.
