Poised on the edge of the mine tailings, the remains of this 1940 Pontiac Coupe caught my eye as I arrived at an abandoned mine in Death Valley. The sun had already set, but the sky retained the last vestiges of a brilliant sunset. Knowing the colors would soon fade away, I worked quickly to set up the camera. Since the sky was much brighter than the foreground, I knew that creating an HDR image would be necessary to capture the full dynamic range.
