I am a self-taught wildlife photographer. I greatly enjoy the various challenges that wildlife photography presents, including the physical demands, difficult conditions, sub-zero temperatures, and remote locations.
Weather conditions play a significant role. The phrase “it is all about the light” certainly applies, but I would also add, “it’s all in the eyes too,” and one needs luck – plenty of luck – to be in the right place at the right time with the right conditions for everything to align perfectly. Photography can be extremely frustrating – but there is real satisfaction when you know you have bagged a good shot.
Overall, I enjoy the entire experience – the adventure, the travel, the basic accommodation, the challenge, and getting close to nature. All of this, plus you meet some decent people along the journey.
