This beautiful autumn scene was captured at Beaver Lake (Lac aux Castors) on Mount Royal, Montreal, during a crisp October morning. I chose early morning for the optimum sun angle for the best vibrant fall foliage reflected perfectly in the calm water. If I missed that early morning window after sunrise, I would have to come back the next day if I wanted to get the same results, but would I be blessed with the same weather conditions? I know from experience that is not always the case!
The sky rewarded me with dramatic cloud formations that added depth to the composition. I was also blessed with minimum wind, which reduced the ripples on the water's surface, making for a perfect reflection.
If you ever visit, autumn is the best season—the explosion of red, orange, and yellow hues transforms the park (and mostly all Eastern Canada regions) into a breathtaking landscape. But each season has its charm: winter turns this spot into a skating rink, and summer is perfect for picnics.
