It was a late afternoon in April. I was on the shoreline at Lower Pine Lake when a few pelicans caught my eye when they came flying in. Twice a year, the Pelicans migrate through and spend a few days at the lake.
There was a slight breeze that day. I knew I had to change my location if I wanted to get pictures, as they were swimming away from me, and I had only brought my 300mm lens. I quickly made my way to the spot where I knew I would be able to get some close shots, but it was hidden by a line of bushes and trees, making nature blind. However, I still had a clear line of sight to get the pictures.
I got all set up when I saw this pair slowly gliding up the water. The sun was low, and it was behind them; some of the sunlight illuminated them. Their reflection is mirrored in the water. They glided past me on their way to the spot where the other mated couples were communicating with one another as they swam up the lake, making it seem that they had been together a long time. It felt like I was catching them in very intimate moments.
