Salt evaporation ponds offer fascinating views for landscape photographers, due to the geometry and regularity of the ponds and the diverse colors they display: blue when fresh saltwater has just entered; red and brown as halophilic bacteria grow during evaporation; and white when the salt is exposed after the water has evaporated.
A few days ago, under a clear, sunny sky, I was marvelled to see Aveiro salt ponds—one of the areas along the Portuguese coast where sea salt is still produced. The multi-colored rectangular evaporation ponds created perspective lines that were pleasing to the eye and drew my attention toward the horizon. Using a drone provided a unique perspective of the landscape.
