The River Indus (1,980 mi) is a trans-boundary Himalayan river that originates in Tibet. It is the lifeline for millions of people living in this part of the world. The picture shows the Zanskar River, a major tributary of the River Indus, majestically meandering through the mountain folds to merge with the Indus a very short distance from here to form the greater Indus. The Indus River increases manyfold in volume and width by the time it reaches the plains and beyond.
