Cold Curve, Bryce Canyon National Park, Utah, USA

This photograph was taken last February at Bryce Canyon National Park, Utah.

A snowstorm had swept through during the night, and by morning the sun began to pierce through the clouds, catching snowflakes still flying through the air and creating an eerie light over this already magical landscape.

I was making my way with difficulty through the fresh snow along the rim when I noticed this lone pine tree, standing almost like a solitary spectator overlooking Bryce Canyon’s natural amphitheater of hoodoos.

Then I noticed the S-shaped curve in the snow leading toward it, like a pathway to this lone guardian of the landscape.

And this is when I realized I might have a good shot!
