A winter day in Brittany, with cold, gray weather. The photo was taken at the Gâvres slipway, with the sea calm.
I chose a relatively long exposure to cool the colors and accentuate the wintry feel. The lines of the slipway first draw the eye to the red beacon—where a cormorant is perched—and then out toward the sea, where the structure disappears into the ocean. The line formed by the mooring rings reinforces this visual path.
Luckily, both the gull at the end of the slipway and the cormorant remained motionless during the exposure!
I find this photo rather soothing. Winter days are perfect for moments like this.
