The camel thorns of Dead Vlei began to grow in this clay pan after the Tsauchab River flooded hundreds of years ago. Although they eventually died, their skeletons did not decompose or petrify. The intense sun and dry climate have preserved these skeletal remains, creating a breathtaking scene for photographers. Capturing a unique image that honors this stark landscape remains a challenge. Dead Vlei is located in the Namib-Naukluft National Park near Sossusvlei, Namibia.
