Lake Louise in Banff National Park is renowned for its scenic beauty, and sunrise is a wonderful time to see it. Given that it takes about an hour to drive to the Lake Louise area from the town of Banff, where we were staying, we had to leave very early in the morning to even get there in time to get a parking place.
Initially, our objective was to arrive early enough to access Moraine Lake; however, upon arrival at the turnoff, the road was already closed due to a full parking lot. Consequently, we proceeded to Lake Louise, but had to park in the upper parking lot, which is a bit of a walk to get down to the lake. By that time, sunrise was just minutes away, and I had to run to get to the lake and get set up in time to photograph the sunrise.
Once arriving at the lake, I could see that I would be sharing this experience with several hundred "friends". However, I did manage to find some good spots to take the photographs that I had pictured in my mind.
Conditions at the lake couldn't have been better, with a clear blue sky free of haze and a stunning reflection on the lake's surface. This made me glad that we ended up at Lake Louise. As the sun rose, I could see strong lines developing in the cliffs and the shadows produced by the rising sun. Utilizing a wide-angle lens allowed me to emphasize these lines, naturally drawing focus towards the glacier-clad Mt. Victoria at the other end of the lake. The beautiful reflection contributed to the serenity of the moment.
