In northwestern Sardinia, in the region known as Nurra, the coastline is defined by numerous lagoons situated behind the dunes—features that shape the landscape of the entire area. Over the centuries, various human activities have developed around these lagoons, including salt extraction; the ruins of these operations are visible in the photograph.

With such a dramatically stormy sky, the light offered me several shots I hold dear. While I am not certain this is the one that evokes the purest emotion, it is certainly the image that best captures the essence of that place on that particular morning: sunlight piercing the clouds and that incredible sky reflected like a mirror in the calm waters of the lagoons, contrasting with the rippling waves of the sea. It was a beautiful experience that still stirs my emotions whenever I look back at the photos from that morning.
