I’ve always found it challenging to realistically portray in a two-dimensional photograph just how large and tall an old-growth redwood forest actually is without a human in the frame providing a sense of scale.
Coming upon this scene, I decided to give it a try. I pointed my camera upward, causing the trees to converge in a diminishing perspective, relying on the distortion to provide that much-desired sense of scale I sought. I think I succeeded here, and the beautiful light and sunbeams streaming through the canopy added that something extra. I never tire of this spectacular place.
