Standing on the high headland bluffs of Ecola State Park overlooking Crescent Beach, the sheer grandeur of the Pacific Northwest coastline unfolds through motion, mist, and light. As passing storm clouds began to fracture, breaking sunlight caught the emerald ocean water, revealing a striking natural geometry: continuous, parallel lines of white surf sweeping diagonally across the bay in a rhythmic, repeating cadence.

For me, capturing this vista was an exercise in patience and visual harmony along the Oregon coast. Rather than focusing solely on the iconic distant silhouette of Haystack Rock, I positioned the frame so the cascading wave crests act as organic leading lines, carrying the viewer’s eye past rugged basalt sea stacks and evergreen-clad cliffs into the hazy coastal horizon. This image embodies the quiet, enduring energy of Cannon Beach—a moment where ocean dynamics, soft atmospheric light, and dramatic Pacific shoreline topography converge into a peaceful, timeless landscape.
