With its softly undulating hills, elegant cypress trees, ancient olive groves, and medieval hilltop towns, Tuscany is one of those rare landscapes that seems tailor-made for photography. At dawn, mist often settles into the valleys while the low morning sun creates beautiful layers, shadows, and subtle tonal shifts across the terrain.

The UNESCO World Heritage landscape of the Val d’Orcia, where we will be based, is perhaps Tuscany’s most iconic region: rolling hills, winding roads, isolated farmhouses, and sculptural trees provide an almost endless supply of creative possibilities.

Photographic Highlights
• San Quirico d’Orcia and the surrounding countryside: Atmospheric rural landscapes, cypress-lined roads, and sweeping viewpoints overlooking the Val d’Orcia.
• Pienza and Montepulciano: Beautiful hilltop towns surrounded by some of Tuscany’s most photogenic countryside.
• Cypress-lined landscapes: Iconic trees providing striking focal points and natural lead-in lines through the landscape.
• Rolling vineyards and olive groves: Particularly stunning bathed in the soft, warm light of early morning and late afternoon.
• Misty valleys and atmospheric mornings: Tuscany at its most magical as the landscape fills with layered, ethereal light.
• The Monastery of Sant’Antimo: An ancient, atmospheric abbey set dramatically within a tranquil valley.
• The Crete Senesi and Monte Oliveto Maggiore: Unique, ‘lunar’ clay landscapes paired with a magnificent historic abbey.

And then there is the light. This is what truly sets Tuscany apart for landscape photography. The low, warm glow of early morning transforms simple scenes into subtle, layered compositions. Valley mist simplifies busy backgrounds to build depth, backlighting illuminates delicate trees and grasses, and rich evening light brings warmth to the rolling hills. Because Tuscany’s topography is so beautifully structured, even subtle shifts in light completely redefine a frame.

Throughout the workshop, we will look far beyond the standard viewpoints. Traveling down quiet strade bianche (gravel white roads), we will focus on refined composition, atmospheric lighting, and the subtle details that convey an authentic sense of place — from a lone cypress fading into morning mist to the gentle curve of a vineyard catching first light. This is Tuscany at its finest: quiet roads, timeless scenery, and the opportunity to create images with a rich, painterly quality.

Join us as we explore the timeless landscapes of Tuscany.
