While spending two weeks in the Pacific Northwest caring for my 93-year-old mother in Oregon, I took my wife on a three-day weekend getaway for her birthday. We drove six hours to northern Washington and then took the ferry to San Juan Island, just across the water from Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.
One morning after a heavy rain and just before taking an afternoon whale-watching tour, we went exploring and found several lighthouses on San Juan Island. The Cattle Point Lighthouse, at the southernmost point of the island, was a short half-mile walk up a sandy path through the grass. I’m always a sucker for leading lines. I had to capture this one. It was a simple scene, but beautiful.
