Torpedownia is a former German torpedo testing station dating from the Second World War. Its ruins stand offshore from the Babie Doły district of Gdynia, Poland, on the Baltic coast.
It was raining that morning, and I didn’t really feel like taking photographs. In the end, I went anyway. By the time I reached the beach, the rain was gradually easing. I was lucky. At sunrise, the sun briefly appeared between the clouds, bathing the scene in golden light. Two rows of wooden posts, together with the reflection of light on the water, created strong leading lines toward the abandoned building. It is moments like these that produce the photographs I love.
