Along the edges of old, disused salt pans, one can see plants typical of saline environments—usually succulents with green and orange hues.
A few days ago, under a clear, sunny sky, I was marvelled to see Aveiro salt ponds—one of the areas along the Portuguese coast where sea salt is still produced. Some of the salt pans were not in production, and beautiful plants were growing along the edges of the pools. The geometry of the landscape is fascinating, and our eye is inevitably drawn along the straight and perpendicular lines.
