When I’m on vacation in Sardinia, instead of sleeping in, I love going to photograph the sunrise by the sea (I stay on the southeastern coast, in Ogliastra). I particularly enjoy the area around Barisardo and the Torre di Barì, where the pleasant sandy beach gives way in places to outcroppings of rock and granite formations that make the landscape truly fascinating.
One morning in late August, the breeze heralding the end of summer stirred up some surf, creating a delightful and intriguing atmosphere. A long—but not too long—exposure (half a second) allowed me to capture the movement of the waves without blurring it away completely. The colors of the sun and the sea did the rest. It was well worth getting up early!
