A few years ago, I went on a photography workshop in Capital Reef National Park in Utah. It lasted six days and five nights, with the middle three spent camping. Our second camp was at the clifftop of Moonscape Overlook. The evening was largely spent around Factory Butte. We had a fire that night and went to bed hoping for a good sunrise.
When we woke up, the conditions were not exactly what we had been hoping for. The sky was significantly overcast, although it still made for a dramatic landscape. The group leader told us the upside was that the morning light would last much longer this way, and we set out to find the various views.
This was one of my preferred shots. With the cliff edge in the foreground, it looks south over the scablands toward the Henry Mountains.
