He was just watching a bird looking for food. Suddenly, he decided to stretch his wings just before taking off and was lucky enough to catch the light in the eye with the early morning sunlight coming from the direction that allowed light onto the underside of the bird, creating good colour balance and a photograph that has scored well for me in local competitions.

Having spent a fair amount of time at this location, the one thing that stands out is that patience is a necessary requirement when photographing birds.
