Godafoss is a large waterfall in northern Iceland. I visited here at sunset with the goal of using a long shutter speed to create a silky effect on the flowing water, thereby giving the falls and river an ethereal look. I took long exposures from various vantage points looking down on the falls, but settled on this perspective from a narrow, rocky shoreline looking up at the falls.
The challenge of using this perspective, however, was finding a foreground element that made for a good composition. These rocks were the best foreground I could see as the last of the sun’s rays touched the top of the falls. This was a 15-second exposure.
