If you drive Highway #4 between Parksville and Port Alberni on Vancouver Island, you will pass Kennedy Lake. After you pass the lake, you arrive at Cathedral Grove Provincial Park. This small area of old-growth forest has a large parking lot next to the entrance that provides access to a boardwalk winding through the park. This image caught my attention, as the broken tree demonstrated the process of forest renewal.
I had to walk around to find a spot without other visitors while still achieving the composition I was looking for.
This image is the result of time spent making the necessary adjustments to create the fine art print I was hoping for.
