Light on the Falls, Gifford Pinchot National Forest, Oregon, USA

Light on the falls, gifford pinchot national forest, oregon, usa

I had hiked to this waterfall before, but always under our typical PNW moody gray sky. I was so excited to have the chance to head out there in the summer sun and see the rays break through the trees. This waterfall is spectacular in any conditions, but the light really makes it shine!

Snowy Hill Landscape, Valtavaara Hill, Kuusamo, Finland

Snowy hill landscape, valtavaara hill, kuusamo, finland

It was ten degrees Celsius below freezing on a beautiful winter morning. I was climbing with ski poles up a snowy slope of the steep hill of Valtavaara in the forest in northern Finland. This place is known for its spectacular views, but especially just after snowfall, the trail in the deep snow can be […]

Fall Times Two, Outside El Chalten Village, Argentina

Fall times two, outside el chalten village, argentina

Of all the images I took in Patagonia, this was one of the pictures that I was most excited about processing. This waterfall was located just outside the village of El Chaltén in Argentina. When we arrived at this location, we could see that the Lenga trees were in full fall colors. As a landscape […]

Moody Kirkjufell, Snaefellsnes Peninsula, Iceland

Moody kirkjufell, snaefellsnes peninsula, iceland

Although the photo was taken in spring, the Icelandic weather surprised us with snowfall, creating an unusual and contrasting scene. Kirkjufell Mountain and Kirkjufellsfoss waterfall are lightly dusted with white fluff, and the cool colours of the landscape emphasise the raw beauty of the island. A thick snow cloud hangs over the peak, from which […]

Los Cuernos del Paine, Torres del Paine National Park, Chile

Los cuernos del paine, torres del paine national park, chile

In April 2018, my wife and I embarked on a two-week, professionally led photo tour of Patagonia. The route started in south central Chile, passed into Argentina, and ended back in Chile at Torres del Paine National Park. The first two days looked good, but then it turned rainy. We lost several days of shooting […]

Morning at Moonscape Overlook, Hanksville, Utah, USA

Hanksville Frost, Utah, USA

A few years ago, I went on a photography workshop in Capital Reef National Park in Utah. It lasted six days and five nights, with the middle three spent camping. Our second camp was at the clifftop of Moonscape Overlook. The evening was largely spent around Factory Butte. We had a fire that night and […]

Chapman’s Pool Bay, Worth Matravers, Dorset, England

Chapman's pool bay, worth matravers, dorset, england

Chapman’s Pool was a lucky discovery. We were in our second week in Dorset and had changed houses to Worth Matravers, which gave us a wet and cold welcome. Lots of rain and a chilly breeze from the sea left us starting the log burner in the house in mid-July. Late afternoon, the weather improved, […]

Teton Fall Haze, Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming, USA

Teton fall haze, grand teton national park, wyoming, usa

When visiting Grand Teton National Park last fall, I encountered some challenging conditions related to wildfires in the area. On many shoots, it was impossible to see the mountain peaks in the background due to the smoke. However, at times, it made for some captivating atmospheric shots among the beautiful fall colors. In this image, […]

Kerid Crater, Grimsnes, Iceland

Kerid crater, grimsnes, iceland

This extraordinary photo shows the volcanic crater Kerið, located in southern Iceland. The deep, almost perfectly round basin is filled with water of an intense turquoise hue, which contrasts with the surrounding reddish-red, porous lava and green moss deposits. This natural combination of colours gives the impression that we are looking at an alien, almost […]

Kona Sinkholes at Sunset, Kailua-Kona, Hawaii Island, USA

Kona sinkholes at sunset, kailua kona, hawaii island, usa

The island of Hawaii, aka the Big Island, is very young in geologic terms, only about one million years old. The coastline has many areas of lava interspersed with sand. Near the town of Kailua-Kona, lava extrusions from previous eruptions have formed sinkholes on the ocean’s edge. Seawater from incoming waves fills up the opening […]
