Bruarfoss is a well-known waterfall in southwestern Iceland, and its fame has increased since a dirt road was constructed to bring visitors closer to the falls. It’s notable for its sinuous braid of water falling into a narrow cleft in the rock bed. I’ve been to Bruarfoss several times, starting ten years ago when access was by a hiking trail.
I returned in February, just before a snowstorm blanketed southern Iceland. The day was overcast, creating diffuse lighting that made it ideal for photographing the falls. For this image, I captured a slightly different angle on the falls than I had done before. During processing, I cropped the image to focus on the vivid blue water near the base of the falls.
