Between Silverton and Red Mountain Pass, the mountainsides were filled with autumn color. What caught my attention was not a sweeping mountain view, but this stand of aspens: white trunks rising through layers of yellow, gold, and lingering green.
I was drawn to the contrast between the solid, textured bark and the delicate leaves surrounding it. The prominent trunk gave me a place to begin, while the smaller trees receding into the grove created a sense of depth and discovery.
As I worked on the composition, I wanted to keep the viewer within the forest, letting the overlapping trunks, branches, and color tell the story. For me, this photograph is a reminder that sometimes the most rewarding view is found by looking more closely at one small part of the landscape.
