Certain plant species are very resistant to environmental conditions and live for many years in harsh conditions. I remembered this idea, well known to everyone, some days ago when I was walking through the Peneda mountains in northern Portugal and saw this small but old tree growing in stony and infertile soil. It was late afternoon, and the sun was hiding behind clouds. What a beautiful and grandiose landscape!
