During my autumn photography trip to the Italian Dolomites, Lago di Braies was one of the locations I was particularly looking forward to visiting.
Arriving early in the morning, I was captivated by the peaceful atmosphere surrounding the lake. What caught my eye was the beautiful little chapel nestled against the dark forest, framed by trees displaying their vibrant autumn colors.
I particularly loved how the traditional wooden rowing boats added another layer of interest to the composition, with their reflections resting in the still turquoise water.
Using my Nikon Z6 III and 180–600mm telephoto lens at 180mm, I was able to compress the scene, bringing the chapel, autumn trees, and boats together into one intimate composition.
As a landscape photographer, I love discovering these quieter details within a much larger landscape. Although the Dolomites are famous for their dramatic mountain peaks, sometimes it’s the smaller, more peaceful scenes that leave the biggest impression.
For me, this photograph captures the tranquility and beauty of autumn in the Dolomites.
