Several years ago, in mid-December, I was driving along Route 125 towards St-Donat-de-Montcalm. Whenever I drive through this gorgeous region, I always carry my camera with my all-purpose 24-200mm lens. As I passed this location, the scenery suddenly amazed me, and I made an emergency stop. After parking safely on the side of the road, I took my camera and stood in front of the car, safely away from the traffic. I was captivated by the lines created by the road, snowbanks and forests, all leading towards the distant mountains beneath the beautiful clouds.
Handheld, I framed the scene at 114mm. To ensure a perfect exposure, I deliberately overexposed the image by 1.7 stops using the ETTR technique. For the composition, I applied the rule of thirds, giving the upper third to the beautiful clouds and the remaining two thirds to the mountains, forests and road.
Once again, I was proud to have noticed this beautiful scene while driving and, most importantly, to have my camera with me to capture nature’s beauty.
