Several members have asked why all submitted images must measure 4000 pixels on the long side, especially when many are ultimately featured only on our website. The explanation is quite straightforward. The vast majority of submissions — over 90% — are placed in a queue for possible inclusion in the magazine. To maintain the highest publication quality standards for the magazine, we require high-resolution files from the outset. A smaller file might appear adequate on a screen, but it will not display properly on a PDF.
For the smaller number of images that are not selected for publication — whether due to space, style, or editorial considerations — these files are removed from our records once the selection process is complete. Since it is impossible to determine at the time of upload which images will appear in the magazine, we must ask all contributors to meet the high-resolution requirement. This ensures that every submission is ready for publication should it be chosen, without the need to request replacements later.
Additionally, following feedback from members who expressed discomfort with their profile pictures being displayed, we will no longer include mugshots in the magazine. This decision respects personal privacy while keeping the focus where it belongs: on the photographs and the stories behind them.
