Late afternoon rains in the Teton Valley often translate to cinematic fog the next morning. So I set out to position myself among the conditions I love to work with.
Having lost track of time (and the corresponding sunrise), I trucked along a remote two-rut road. As I rolled forward, a dim, warm light bled through the dark, damp, and cold fog. Inching forward, the light grew ever brighter, revealing one of the most unique sunrises I’d ever seen.
The fog rippled across the sun and changed the composition without moving. Balancing the exposure became difficult in these circumstances, but difficulty was not on my mind, which was completely filled with awe. There’s something about being the only one to see something like this that makes it more special and tasks a photographer with a seemingly more important role in documenting it.
