This was my first time in South Africa and for a photographer of wildlife and landscapes it was all and more than it was cracked up to be. Madikwe Game Reserve has both wonderful landscapes and a variety of opportunities to catch wildlife in their natural environment. It was promised at the time to be malaria-free and less packed with people than other parks.
The zebra I caught was just leisurely munching away at its food. I was quiet enough and far enough away to not disturb it. The lens I had was not a very powerful zoom so I had to be careful. I like the details of the photo and of course the casual feeding aspect of it.
You can see in the background burnt trees. There had been a fire in the area.
