Driving on the deep forest roads of Colorado’s San Juan Mountains, I came upon this isolated grove of aspens, the canopy of which seemed very inviting to “come in” and explore photographic opportunities. There was a mix of sun and clouds, which provided changing lighting conditions from moment to moment. Eventually, the right series of trunks paired with the right lighting pattern, and a simple but descriptive photograph was made. I appreciated the experience of being with the aspens. It felt like a quiet shelter on the side of the mountain in which to be creative.
