Ancient forests, where humans have interfered little or not at all for decades or centuries, are places of great aesthetic value, in addition to their intrinsic biological value resulting from their high biodiversity. This environment has a profound psychic and introspective power for humans. In the Serra de Montemuro, we find some of the last very old oak forests in Portugal. Walking through one of these a few days ago, my attention was drawn to a large granite rock completely covered with moss, where sunlight shone while the rest of the forest remained in twilight. The beauty of the scenery completely captivated me.
