I took this photograph at Råbjerg Mile, near Skagen in northern Denmark. It is often described as Denmark’s only desert, but compared to the great deserts of the world, it feels quiet and contained. That contrast is what drew me to it.

My intention was to explore how a landscape like this could still carry the visual language of a desert. The light at Skagen plays an important role. There is a natural balance between the cool tones of the sky and the warmer tones of the sand, which gives the scene a calm and almost minimal expression.

I worked with a wide-angle perspective to emphasise that feeling. The shapes in the sand mirror the movement in the clouds, creating a subtle connection between ground and sky. By keeping the scene simple and free of distractions, I wanted the viewer to focus on form, light, and space rather than scale.

For me, this image is about how a desert does not have to be vast or extreme to be experienced as one. Even in a small and familiar place, the landscape can take on a different character when the conditions and perspective come together.
