Often called “The Land of High Passes,” Ladakh is India’s most famous cold desert and is known for its barren mountains and crystal-clear lakes, like Pangong Tso, seen in this image. Due to the extremely high altitude, the climate in Ladakh is very dry and cold. There is very little rainfall here, as it lies in the rain shadow of the Himalayas.
