Visiting Glacier National Park’s west entrance in August 2025 was challenging due to advance reservation requirements for that entry point. We travelled around the park to the east side and stayed in Browning, Montana, which was the closest town with available lodging. So each morning, we had to make the substantial drive from Browning to an East Glacier entrance.
The drive was made more pleasant thanks to the views of the Rocky Mountains and impressive park features. When we saw this view of the valley at Cut Bank Creek, we just had to stop the car and climb some nearby hills to enjoy and capture this scene. The low clouds hanging over the valley added depth, drama, and a wider tonal range to the scene. I chose to convert it to black and white in post to emphasize the textures in the mountains and contrast these with the foreground forests. It is challenging to keep the darker mountain areas from blocking up while keeping the contrast punchy, but not excessive.
