We encountered this scene during an early morning wildlife safari. I have seen sunlit shafts in the past but never quite as dramatic as this one. Some research indicates that this is an atmospheric phenomenon caused when light interacts with airborne water droplets and foliage. This usually occurs when the Sun is at a low glancing angle, either in the morning or evening.
