In September 2024, I joined a polar landscape expedition to Scoresby Sund — the world’s most extensive fjord system — in Eastern Greenland. Early on one of the first mornings, we set out by zodiac across glassy waters to a remote inlet at sunrise. Before we even began hiking, we had to stop.
Before us was a scene of serene grandeur: a pale moon still visible in the dawn sky, snow-capped mountains glowing pink and orange in alpenglow, scattered icebergs, and in the foreground, a tidal pool where frozen swirl patterns had formed in the ice. This moment set the tone for an extraordinary week ahead.
