Misty Winter Journey, Bonners Ferry, Idaho, USA

I stayed the night in a small motel about 3 hours north of my home so I could be on scene in the early hours of the morning. Getting out of bed and leaving the room in the dark and the frigid cold was not easy.

I had no destination in mind, but headed further north along the base of the Selkirk Range and the Kootenai River. It had snowed heavily overnight. I found a small, ploughed dirt road towards the river as the dawn approached. The distant river was steaming in the colder air.

As I got to the river, a smaller, unplowed road took off into the mist. With the sunrise in the distance, I climbed over the snow berm with a tripod and a camera, sinking deeply with each step, composed the scene and created several images. With frozen fingers and snow-caked jeans, I returned to my vehicle with a smile.
