The conditions on this particular morning didn’t look like they would be anything special, but boy, was I wrong. As I hiked down the Damnation Creek Trail, I noticed fog drifting in down below me. This is pretty common in the coastal Redwood forests, so I wasn’t too surprised. As I walked further down, my anticipation turned into elation.

As the sun rose high enough, beams of light started blasting through the fog, bathing the forest in glowing light that was pure magic. I was treated to several hours of this, and it turned into the most productive morning of photography I’ve ever had. And just when I thought it couldn’t get any better, it did.

As I rounded a bend in the trail, I noticed a fogbow forming. Initially white, it then develops into a full spectrum of rainbow colors. I’ve never seen anything like it and felt very privileged to witness and capture it. This is the best of several images I captured before it dissipated. It was one for the books, a morning I’ll never forget.
