Tasmania is a landscape photographer’s paradise. It presents so many opportunities, from soaring mountain vistas with snow-capped peaks in the winter, stunning mountain lakes with mirror-like reflections, wild rivers coursing through massive stands of pristine temperate rainforests, historic architecture built by early convict labourers and even, at the right time, incredible images of the Aurora Borealis.
And we haven’t even begun to talk about the waterfalls. Rivers fed by snow melt running out of wild, rugged ranges form some of the most beautiful waterfalls on the planet.
Nelson Falls, on the West Coast, not far from Queenstown, is a wonderful example of a cascade waterfall. Around 30 metres high, it is easily accessible via a short 1.5 km walk off the Lyall Highway and is probably best visited during the Springtime, September to November, when there would likely be a lot more water than when this image was taken
