Finally, a long-awaited opportunity to visit Badwater Basin in Death Valley nearly ended in disappointment. After 4 nights of too cloudy or too windy weather, the skies cleared and the wind calmed for a glorious night of shooting under the stars.
Here, the ancient saltwater flats on this basin sit 282 feet below sea level, with expansive views of the Black Mountain (Amargosa Range) to the east, featuring a peak of 5,768 feet, and of the greater Death Valley area.
This scene is only fully captured as a panorama covering a field of view approximately 160 degrees wide. This panorama is composed of 8 foreground frames and 8 Milky Way frames captured after sunset.
