The state of Ladakh in India is crisscrossed by several mighty mountain ranges. One of them is the Karakoram, located in Pakistan but extending into India, China, Afghanistan, and Tajikistan. It is the home of the second-highest peak on Earth, K2, with a towering height of 8,611 meters (28,251 feet).
Karakoram, in Turkic, means black gravel. The mountain’s unmistakable blackness reflects this. The photo was taken on our trip to Ladakh and Kashmir. The mountain’s immensity truly humbles you.
