My family holiday to the UK would coincide with rapeseed oil fields in full bloom, a vibrant spectacle I was determined to capture. I envisioned a dramatic scene of predominantly green and yellow—an expanse of rapeseed fields broken by a road or building, a stark contrast that would symbolise the balance between nature and human intervention and the fleeting beauty of the season.
I had two location options: the flat lands of Norfolk and the rolling hills of Northumberland.
I decided the best way to approach the challenge would be to use my drone, a DJI Mavic Air 2, which also had the advantage of creating more interest and excitement for family members! I loved the new perspective the drone offered, and after trying a few locations, on a beautiful sunny day, I found it in the Norfolk flatlands. A long, straight road bisecting a massive field of rapeseed; it perfectly embodied the balance I was seeking. The moment I saw it and captured the first shot, I felt a sense of satisfaction. It wasn’t just a picture; it was the realisation of a vision. Everything had come together perfectly.
