White Pocket had been a place I had heard about while trying to get a permit for The Wave. After finally experiencing The Wave, I turned my attention to White Pocket. I should have visited much sooner, as White Pocket is truly an otherworldly location. The biggest challenge in getting there was the 15+ mile stretch of deep desert sand and large rocks that you have to drive through during the final part of the journey. For my first visit, I decided to use a local guide company to help us navigate, avoiding the risk of getting stuck in the middle of nowhere!
Once we arrived, our guide spent about two hours showing us all the best spots for photography. After that, we had free rein to explore the entire area. I was especially excited to see that recent rain had left numerous small and large puddles scattered across the area. This particular shot was taken near the end of our allotted time with the guide. My excitement stemmed from a large, fluffy cloud nearby, which made our guide a bit nervous since it seemed to indicate a significant rainstorm was on the way. When I noticed the cloud perfectly reflected in one of the puddles, I started snapping photos from multiple angles and distances, and this shot ultimately became one of my favorites.
