I’m used to having to travel many kilometres and walk for hours, with all the fatigue that comes with it, just to capture a landscape photo. However, this was one of those rare occasions where that wasn’t the case. My destination was the Boulouvaros waterfalls. This beautiful landscape is located on the road between Metsovo and Grevena. When you stop the car at a spot next to the road, you can see the Boulouvaros stream on the opposite side, and the trail to the waterfalls begins right next to it.
After hiking for about 100 meters, you don’t expect to encounter such a magical sight. Unfortunately, it doesn’t offer many different angles for photography, so the shots from this particular spot tend to look quite similar, with only the season changing. However, I had the chance, thanks to the timing, to add a little something extra to my shot. I had planned to be there during the late afternoon hours, just before sunset, when the sun sets exactly behind the waterfalls. This allowed me to capture the sun peeking through the trees, and with a small aperture, you get the “star” effect of the sun.
Usually, to capture this in a photo, you need two shots: one for the landscape and one for the sun. During that trip, I was lucky to have my family with me, as we were on a four-day vacation in Ioannina and the surrounding areas. That’s when my little daughter put down her camera and asked if she could use mine. I told her she could photograph the sun and its “star.” Of course, she didn’t miss the chance, but she didn’t stop taking shots until she captured the best and biggest star. As you can imagine, we spent quite a while doing this.
The result left me completely satisfied, but also incredibly happy because it was a collaboration with my little marvel.
